Imagine walking up to your car, putting your finger on the scanner, opening the door, using your finger to start the engine and heading to your next destination.
Impossible, right? Wrong
Thanks to Hyundai, you could feel like a MI5 spy in Tesco Car Park or on your drive sooner than you think. Early 2019 to be exact!
The world’s first smart fingerprint technology will be added to the South Korean manufacturer’s Sante Fe SUV model and will allow drivers to not only unlock doors but also start the vehicle.
Through unique profile matching, the fingerprint scanner will adapt the vehicle to provide a customized driving environment – meaning you’ll never have to keep changing the position of your seat, putting your favourite radio back on or fiddling with those awkward mirrors after your husband has taken the car to the football.
But what about security? Do not fear. Nobody is going to be able to dust your door handle for prints before stealing your new Hyundai. This isn’t Luther!
Hyundai have addressed security fears by the creation of a capacitance recognition system, which detects differentials in the electricity level in various parts of the fingertip to stop forgeries and make the system five times safer than a traditional smart key.
Clever isn’t it?!
